EWC 2025 Week 4 Champions Recap
Aug 04, 2025.
The biggest stage gets the biggest stars.

The fourth week of the 2025 Esports World Cup concluded with epic grand finals across chess, Overwatch 2, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and PUBG MOBILE. As the fifth week begins, here’s a look at the updated Club Championship leaderboard.

Club of the Week Award
Two incredible performances. Team Liquid players knew they were a contender in the Club Championship long before they lifted their first 2025 Esports World Cup trophy because they were more than confident that they'd make it to the podium. That happened in both Chess at EWC 25 with Magnus Carlsen and MSC at EWC 25. Team Liquid is your club of the week.
Player of the Week Award
It was a bracket filled with champions, but that didn't phase Team Liquid's Sanford "Sanford" Vinuya. The EXP Laner pulled off clutch play after clutch play during his teams run through the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Mid Season Cup at 2025 Esports World Cup. He is the 2025 Esports World Cup player of the week.

Magnus Carlsen crushes the competition in Chess at EWC 25
It's difficult to think that there was ever any doubt. The number one ranked chess player in the world, Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen, crushed the competition on the way to earning the inaugural chess title at the 2025 Esports World Cup.
There was one close call as the number two ranked player, American grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura, took Carlsen on a seven match thriller before falling. Fellow Team Falcons representative and Iranian-French grandmaster Alireza Firouzja did not put up nearly as much of a fight in the final.
Carlsen earns $250,000 for his win and Team Liquid is now second in the race for the Club Championship trophy.

Team Liquid defeats reigning ML:BB champions
Team Liquid's path to the MSC at EWC 25 championship looked near effortless. MVP Sanford "Sanford" Vinuya and squad handled each and every match, from the group stage to the grand final without dropping more than one map in each game.
After taking down Ultra Legends and ONIC in the group stage, Team Liquid went on to defeat Aurora Türkiye, ONIC a second time, and the reigning EWC champions Selangor Red Giants. Team Liquid earns $1,000,000 and a 1000 club points. The club also became the first organization to win two events at the 2025 Esports World Cup during the same week.

Team Falcons secured their first-place finish after rising out of the LCQ.
After nearly four weeks of intense competition, fans from around the world were beginning to worry that Team Falcons may not become eligible for the Club Championship as the club had not earned a required first-place finish. Kim "Proper" Dong-hyun and their Overwatch 2 squad laid those concerns to rest as they demolished T1 and Al Qadsiah in the semifinals and finals of the OWCS: Midseason Championship at 2025 Esports World Cup. This superpowered squad didn’t just win; they rose up out of the LCQ first and then beat out the competition.

A battle royale comeback for the ages
It's fair to say that Yangon Galacticos didn't give their best performance for the majority of the PUBG MOBILE World Cup at the 2025 Esports World Cup. After struggling during the group stage and then barely making it out of the survival stage, this squad turned on the burners for the grand final.
The Myanmar-based squad earned multiple chicken dinners and scored dozens of kills, giving themselves the lead long before the third and last day of the grand final began. Once it did, no one was able to win through the match point system. Once the final six games were played, Yangon Galacticos were left on top.
With hundreds of matches taking place over the next week, new legends will rise as champions are crowned and rivals are toppled. Watch the Esports World Cup 2025 live or check out the ticket options to watch the games in person!
