LAST TIME ON: Apex Legends at the Esports World Cup

When we say last year’s Apex Legends competition at EWC 2024 was historic, we aren’t exaggerating. The finals was the longest match ever played, clocking in at a shocking 13 games!

Twenty teams battled their way through the group stage to earn the right to compete for the inaugural EWC Apex Legends championship, but no one could predict just how hard it would be to seize the crown.

Under the match point format, teams had to reach 60 points through kills and placement to reach match point, at which point they needed to win a game to be named the EWC Apex Champions. Team Falcons took an early lead in the Grand Finals, reaching match point before any other team! But with victory on the horizon, they couldn’t close.

Instead, team after team reached match point over the next seven games — Gaimin Gladiators, Team Liquid, Aurora, Mizuchi, DMS, Guild, Faze, and Alliance all reached match point, but NO one could manage to clinch the title! Until Game 13 that is, when Alliance finally took fate into their hands. Despite only holding on by a thread throughout the finals, they were the ones who stepped up to the challenge earning their first victory of finals when it mattered the most to become the Apex Legends EWC champions!

It was one of the best matches of EWC 2024, and we cannot WAIT to see what these teams bring us this year!

ALGS Midseason Playoffs at the 2025 Esports World cup Dates and Format

The event will happen July 10-13, with 40 teams in attendance.

Stage 1 of the tournament is the Group Stage. Here, two groups of twenty teams will fight for the first slots in the finals.

Stage 2 is the last chance qualifier, where 20 teams who failed to make it to the finals in stage 1 take their last shot at survival.

Stage 3 is the finals, bringing back the match point format that made last year’s event so iconic! We can look forward to more mad dashes at points and even more drama as teams fights to put their key into the EWC Apex Legends 2025 trophy and earn the title of ALGS Midseason Champions!

This year's event will feature a prize pool of $2 million. It’s a massive sum of money on the line for these Apex Legends players and orgs, so you know that they will be fighting their hardest to get their piece of the pool!
