PARIS, France (August 2, 2026) -- G2 Esports has won the Call of Duty: Warzone Resurgence Series Championship at the Esports World Cup 2026 after an epic 11-match grand final that saw five teams end on match point and the final game come down to the dying moments.
The G2 Esports roster of Anthony "Anziety" Moran, Ashton "Bigman" Ezard, and Aarondeep "Cythe" Dhami has been playing together for years, avoiding the frequent roster changes that regularly affect the Call of Duty: Warzone scene, and sticking together through the good times and bad. Last year at the Esports World Cup they ended in 17th place, failing to even make the grand final and receiving a lot of criticism from fans.
But this year was a different story, with the team signed to G2 Esports this past February and putting on solid, though inconsistent, displays throughout the year. They entered EWC as a firm contender, but few had them down as a favorite for the competition heading in. Then the group stage happened, with G2 putting up 235.2 points to come second in Group B and lock in a spot in the Grand Final.
When the final got underway, G2 got off to a flying start, taking top three finishes in each of the first four maps. After such a hot start, more teams tried to challenge them, resulting in some poor results midway through the final day, but still reached match point by Game 10. In Game 11, G2 punctuated the finals with a massive 26-kill performance to take home the trophy. Across all 11 maps in the final, they only placed outside of the top five twice, and notched more total kills than anyone with 150 total.
“I’ve been playing with [my team] for the past four years, last year at EWC we almost got dead last, and for this year, just to prove all the doubters wrong, it doesn’t feel real, it's crazy,” said Aarondeep "Cythe" Dhami. “It's just crazy to prove all the haters wrong, and if they hate you that means you are doing something right in life. So I appreciate all the support.”
“It feels good, especially from last year. I was on rock bottom and now we won, so it's just the storyline that was meant to be,” added Ashton "Bigman" Ezard. “It hasn’t hit me yet, it doesn't feel real, but it will hit me later. It just felt like a scrim to me.”
Anthony "Anziety" Moran was crowned the SONY MVP for the tournament, scooping an extra $25,000 and the coveted MVP award. “I've got no words right now, none,” he said after winning. “I’m just shocked that we won that game. There are just no words. It feels amazing. I lost my voice screaming. This is amazing.”
G2 Esports take home the top prize of $250,000 and 1,000 Club Championship points, but after failing to place in the top eight of both VALORANT and League of Legends, the Club still needs another top eight finish in either Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 or Counter-Strike 2 to be eligible for the Club Championship. Current Club Championship leaders Team Falcons, who were a favorite for the Warzone Resurgence Series Championship, ended the final in last place, missing out on any Club Championship points.
2026 saw the inaugural season of the Call of Duty: Warzone Resurgence Series take place, which culminated at the Esports World Cup. The season-long competition featured two LAN events, one in Birmingham, England, and one in Atlanta, USA, that offered EWC qualification opportunities to top teams, along with $200,000 in prize money. Finally, a series of online qualifiers offered even more chances for teams to qualify for the season-ending championship at the Esports World Cup.
