Mobile Legends: Bang Bang esports has a new champion: Selangor Red Giants have defeated Falcons AP .Bren in the grand finals of the 2024 Mid-Season Cup. The grand finals went all seven games but when the dust settled, it was Selangor Red Giants who became the MLBB champions at the inaugural Esports World Cup.
Both teams only dropped a single game on their way to the grand finals of MSC 2024. Selangor Red Giants dropped a game in Group B before sweeping their way through the playoffs with flawless victories over Fire Flux Esports and NiP Flash — two-time champions Falcons AP. Bren went undefeated in their group and swept See You Soon in the quarterfinals before defeating Liquid Echo 3-1 to qualify for the grand finals.
Falcons AP. Bren came into the grand finals of MSC 2024 as the favorites due to their superior playoff experience, and . Still, Selangor Red Giants matched them every step of the way and, crucially, was able to edge out the series due in large part to outstanding plays from jungler Muhammad Haqqullah "Sekys" Ahmad Shahrul Zaman, who was named PlayStation MVP for his immaculate performance in the series.
In addition to 1,000 Club Points, Selangor Red Giants took home $1,000,000 USD – the lion’s share of the $3,500,000 prize pool divided amongst the 23 Mobile Legends: Bang Bang teams competing in the Mid-Season Cup at EWC 2024. Sekys won an additional $50,000 USD for his finals MVP performance.
SRG’s win over FCAP in the grand finals of the 2024 Mid-Season Cup is more than just an achievement for their team and organization – it is also the first time in MSC history that a Malaysian team qualified for the grand finals and the first time a Malaysian team won an international MLBB championship. SRG’s win also ended a seven-year drought of international esports victories in Malaysia.
