Gen.G Esports Take the League of Legends at 2025 Esports World Cup Crown, Their Second International Title In As Many Weeks

Jul 20, 2025.

Gen.G Esports has now won two international League of Legends tournaments in just over a week, with victories at the Esports World Cup and MSI.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (July 20, 2025) Gen.G Esports has lifted the League of Legends at 2025 Esports World Cup trophy after a 3-2 win over AG.AL in the Grand Final. Their victorious run at the Esports World Cup means they claim their second League of Legends international title in as many weeks.

As one of the top four seeded teams in the competition, Gen.G joined at the start of the playoff stage, skipping the group stage. From there they took down North American team FlyQuest 2-0, setting up a tense matchup against European side G2 Esports in the Semi-Final, which they would win 2-1.

The Grand Final saw Gen.G face off against Chinese side AG.AL, who had previously knocked out the two other Korean teams in the competition; Hanwha Life Esports and defending EWC champions T1. However, AG.AL could not make it a clean sweep of all the Korean sides at the Esports World Cup, with Gen.G taking a 3-2 victory in the Grand Final after AG.AL almost managed to pull off a reverse sweep, falling in the decisive game five.

Not losing a match at the Esports World Cup means that Gen.G is now on a 26 match win streak, which will go down as one of the most dominant runs ever seen. That run also included victory at the Mid-Season Invitational just a week before the Esports World Cup kicked off, making this the fastest back to back international titles in League of Legends history.

Gen.G Esports’ Kim “Kiin” Kiin was named the SONY MVP following dominant performances throughout the competition. He will receive an additional $10,000 and the MVP medal to recognise his achievements.

“We were here last year, but we got eliminated early, so this time I wanted to lift the trophy and I did,” said Kim “Kiin” Kiin. I'm really excited.”

Gen.G Esports earns 1000 Club Championship points for their victory, and crucially secures the organisation's first trophy of the event, making them eligible to win the Club Championship should they top the table after seven weeks. This is the organisation's fourth top eight placement, which currently puts them in first place in the standings with 1800 points.
