A stacked pitch of players
Even though the name of the tournament has changed, many big-name players will return to Riyadh. Among them is last year’s winner João "jafonsogv" Vasconcelos, who qualified directly for the main event this year after winning the tournament last year by coming all the way through the Last Chance Qualifier.
To defend his title, he’ll have to face some of EA SPORTS FC’s biggest names, including Anders Vejrgang, Emre Yilmaz, Ahmad "AbuMakkah" Mujahid, Nicolas "nicolas99fc" Villalba, Levi de Weerd, and countless other world-class players all aiming to claim the trophy this year.

The path to EA SPORTS FC glory
On their path to becoming this year’s EA FC champion, players must make their way through multiple rounds – starting with a GSL-style group phase on August 7th. The 32 competing players have been randomly placed into eight double-elimination brackets, meaning they need to win twice to secure a spot in the knockout stage.
With the field now cut in half, the tournament shifts to a single-elimination bracket, culminating in a grand final and third-place match on August 10th. Beyond the prestige of being crowned champion, players are also competing for a share of the $1,000,000 prize pool, with $250,000 reserved for the winner.

Club Championship
After winning their first event last week, Team Falcons seem poised to take home the Club Championship title for the second year running. Given the sheer number of teams the Saudi club has representing them, it’s going to be tough for others to usurp them. If other teams want to finish above the birds of prey, they’ll need to score big points in the events where they’re represented.
In the case of the FC Pro World Championship at the 2025 Esports World Cup, Team Liquid will be aiming for the win to stay in title contention. The fact that the Dutch-American organization is being represented by no fewer than five players in the FC Pro World Championship gives them multiple opportunities to secure victory – especially with top-tier contenders like Emre Yilmaz, Levi de Weerd, and Manuel “ManuBachoore” Bachoore playing under their flag.
With hundreds of matches set to take place over the next few days, new legends will rise as champions are crowned and rivals are toppled. Watch the Esports World Cup 2025 live or check out the ticket options to watch in-person this week!
