Saturday, July 13th spoiled esports fans with fantastic action from the Mobile Legends Bang Bang (MLBB) Semifinals, DOTA 2 Riyadh Masters Group Stages, and Free Fire Point Rush.
Here is a summary of what went on so you're prepared for the climax of Week 2.
We have our two MLBB MSC finalists after two exciting semifinal match-ups with both teams guaranteed at least $500,000 in prize money.
After an extraordinary feat of going four months without losing, Selangor Red Giants have extended that unbeaten streak in empathic fashion with a dominant 3-0 victory over NIP Flash. After a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Fire Flux Esports in the Quarterfinals, this one-sided victory was the boost the Malaysian organisation needed as the squad will now head into the final full of confidence.
Meanwhile, the only other two teams to go undefeated faced off in a fantastic battle when Liquid Echo met Falcons.AP Bren in a thrilling match-up. Falcons got off to an early lead after taking the first two games in the best-of-five but Liquid answered back with a win of their own to keep their hopes alive. However, it wasn't enough as Falcons made a statement, taking the fourth game in just over 10 minutes — almost half the length of Game 2 — to secure a massive 3-1 victory.
Now Selangor Red Giants and Falcons AP.Bren will square off in an epic best-of-seven final with the winner earning $1m and 1,000 Club Championship Points.
The Group Stages of the Riyadh Masters continued as all 16 DOTA 2 teams battled it out amongst their two respective groups. After a day full of games, we know have our first qualifiers and eliminations before the Groups conclude tomorrow Sunday, July 14th.
As expected, things are extremely tight in the very stacked Group A with a four-way tie for first between the juggernauts that are reigning TI 12 champions Team Spirit, ESL Pro Tour points leaders Team Falcons, OG, and Garmin Gladiators with 7 wins and 5 losses each.
Meanwhile, Group B has already decided a few of its seeds. MOUZ have already been eliminated after picking up just one win — a 1-1 draw with BetBoom Team — and eleven losses.
Tundra Esports have emerged as the group leaders with an impressive 10-2 record, dropping games to only Team Liquid and PSG Quest. Team Liquid themselves have also qualified after a comeback against Mouz took them to 9-3 which was enough to mathematically secure their place in the Playoffs. And joining them with a 9-3 record of their own is Entity who have also had a great tournament.
But with the four Upper Bracket and two Lower Bracket places still to be decided, it's all to play for heading into the final day of Groups.
The Point Rush Stage has given us a preview of tomorrow's final as all 8 finalists competed to earn the all-important head start in points to take into the deciding matches.
Leading the pack is the ever-impressive Buriram United Esports who dominated with a total score of 117 which has earned them a huge 8 points before the final even begins. They were the only team to reach triple figures but fellow Thai team AG Global weren't far behind as they earned six points thanks to their tally of 91 points was 15 points ahead of third-place EVOS Divine.
And it's going to be an uphill struggle for Brazilian teams LOUD and Team Solid who will have start with 0 points meaning fourth-place Fluxo may be Brazil's only hope of lifting the EWC trophy.
