Esports World Cup Club Championship halfway mark: The story so far

2024-07-29

We're already a month into the inaugural Esports World Cup with multiple tournament winners but there can only be one Club Champion.

The Esports World Cup has reached the halfway checkpoint and there is already a clear leader as to who will emerge as the first-ever Club Championship winner. However, with another month of action and many tournaments still to be played, a lot could easily change.

But for now, here is how the Club Championship standings are shaping up after the first four weeks:

1st: Team Falcons - 3500 points

As it stands, Team Falcons are running away with the competition. Following strong showings in a lot of different game titles, Falcons have astonishingly racked up more than double points of any other team.

Falcons are the only team to have won more than one tournament as their squads came out victorious in both Call of Duty: Warzone and Free Fire. That alone would have been enough for first-place but Falcons also came second in MLBB men's after an extremely close final and placed third in MLBB women's, Dota 2, and Overwatch 2 to cement their lead at the top.

2nd: Team Liquid - 1170 points

Once again, the Club Championship rewards consistency across multiple titles and Team Liquid have shown just that climbing this high despite failing to win a tournament so far.

The team's proficiency in MOBAs is paying off as Team Liquid reached the finals of the Dota 2 Riyadh Masters, the semifinals of League of Legends, and the semifinals of MLBB mens going undefeated until they met Falcons AP.Bren.

3rd: Natus Vincere - 1110 points

Making the top three is NAVI who went on an incredible run to win the Counter-Strike 2 championship with a thrilling win over G2 Esports despite not being tournament favourites.

An admirable 5th place finish in Call of Duty: Warzone is so far been the difference separating them from other tournament winners in the Club Championship standings. Third place would earn them an incredible $2million but the standings are incredibly close.

4th: Gaimin Gladiators - 1080 points

Just a measly 30 points behind the top three, Gaimin Gladitors are working their way up the standings.

A tremendous and dominant victory in the Dota 2 Riyadh Masters has rocketed them up the standings with top-8 finishes in MLBB Women's and Free Fire helping to separate them from the pack.

5th: Alpha7 Esports, Crazy Racoon, Selangor Red Giants, Smart Omega Empress, and T1 - 1,000 points

We said it was close. There is currently a five-way tie for 5th with teams who have all won their respective tournaments but haven't entered anything else so far.

T1, formerly SK Telecom T1, are the most iconic team in League of Legends as Faker and the rest of the reigning World Champions proved that they're still the team to beat.

Crazy Racoon dominated Overwatch 2 with a convincing victory over Toronto Ultra in the final.

Owned by the Malaysian football club, Salangor Red Giants went on a tremendous run to win MLBB men's while in the MLBB women's, Smart Omega Empress pulled off potentially the biggest upset of the tournament so far by defeating a Team Vitality side that hadn't lost in years.

And Alpha7 Esports were sensational in PUBG Mobile as they secured five Winner Winner Chicken Dinners on their way to the title.

10th: G2 Esports - 875 points

Taking up the last spot in the top 10 are G2 Esports who have had strong showings in two of the world's biggest esports titles: LoL and CS2. They came runners-up in CS2 only to the impressive NAVI and reached the LoL semi finals which, for now, is enough to put them just in front of Team Vitality and Fnatic who currently sit in 11th.
