Yangon Galacticos Come Back From The Brink Of Elimination To Win The PUBG Mobile World Cup
Aug 03, 2025.
Yangon Galacticos secure their first major international trophy at the Esports World Cup thanks to an incredible comeback scraping into the grand final by a single point.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (August 3, 2025) Yangon Galacticos has won the PUBG Mobile World Cup at 2025 Esports World Cup trophy, despite being just one point away from elimination during the survival stage of the competition.
The team entered the competition as an outsider, with few people predicting them to win the tournament overall, given the impressive strength of the field. After the first few days of competition, those predictions were looking pretty accurate, with Yangon Galacticos ending the group stage in 11th place and being forced to play in the survival stage.
In the survival stage, they were perpetually in the middle of the table throughout the two days of the competition, showing some solid performances but being very inconsistent. When the final table was calculated, Yangon Galacticos just managed to qualify for the grand final in the last available spot, beating out INFLUENCE RAGE by a single point, meaning one less elimination across two days would have seen them knocked out of the competition in 17th place.
Instead, they made it to the grand final, and this is where they finally showed what they were made of. Two wins and four top four finishes on the first day of the grand final showed the world that Yangon Galacticos meant business, then they managed to pick up another two wins on day two to stay at the top of the table once again. By day three, the pressure was on, but it took them two games to earn the 10 points necessary to reach match point. From then on, a win would crown them champions, but it took all six games before they could lift the trophy.
With both Alpha Gaming and Weibo Gaming, the two other match point eligible teams, falling in the final game before the end game kicked in, Yangon Galacticos were confirmed as the winner before the match ended. The team started celebrating before they were even eliminated from the match, giving other teams a chance for some easy extra points.
“Of course we were nervous, we were top of the leaderboard” said Khant "Romeo" Hein of Yangon Galacticos after his victory. “We made some mistakes in the previous rounds, but we just waited and played our own game and waited for their mistakes. We knew we could do it, we had the confidence to make it happen.”
Despite placing third overall, Alpha Gaming’s Uuganbayar "DOK" Dulguun was handed the SONY Grand Finals MVP award for an impressive performance across the final three days.
Yangon Galacticos earns 1000 Club Championship points for their victory, marking their first points gain of the Club Championship. But with no other confirmed titles at the Esports World Cup, they will not be a factor in the final standings unless they can secure a place in either the TEKKEN 8 or Street Fighter 6 competitions through Last Chance Qualifiers. However, for second place Weibo Gaming, the extra 750 points will feel especially welcome after the Club has seen four of its other rosters finish just outside the points in ninth place. With three more teams set to compete in the coming weeks, they could still be a contender for the Club Championship.
