Clem crushed all opposition in his path including an outrageous 8-0 total map against tournament favorite Serral.

A Starcraft II champion has been crowned in Riyadh. Team Liquid’s Tarren virtuoso Clément "Clem" Desplanches dominated the grand finals of Esports World Cup: Starcraft II in a 5-0 sweep over BASILISK’s Joona "Serral" Sotala.

The grand finals was the second time Clem and Serral had clashed in Esports World Cup: Starcraft II. Their first meeting was in the upper bracket finals, which Clem also took over the Finnish Zerg master by a score of 3-0.

Here’s what happened during one of the most iconic esports games in history when it came to the EWC!

Clem’s road to victory

Boasting an 8-0 map score against the likes of Serral is quite impressive, but Clem’s dominance throughout Esports World Cup: Starcraft II was not exclusive to the eventual grand finals matchup.

Clem finished the tournament with a staggering 18-2 map score. The only player to make Clem mortal at EWC: Starcraft II was Serral’s teammate, BASILISK’s Riccardo "Reynor" Romiti. The Italian Zerg took two maps off of Clem before ultimately dropping the upper bracket semifinals of Group B 3-2.

Clem kicked off Esports World Cup: Starcraft II by dispatching of Twisted Minds’ Kim "Classic" Doh-woo before his close series with Reynor. After sweeping Serral 3-0, he skipped ahead all the way to the Final Four. Clem’s first match of the Final Four was a 4-0 win against another Korean Protoss player, Weibo Gaming’s Kim "herO" Joon-ho, which qualified Clem for the grand finals for his eventual 5-0 championship win over Serral.

Clem’s spoils of victory

The prize pool for Esports World Cup: Starcraft II is $1,000,000 USD, and for his victory, Clem will be taking home a massive $400,000 of that sum.

Team Falcons has already locked up 1st place in the EWC Club Championship Points standings with 4435 points, but Clem’s win puts Team Liquid firmly in 2nd place with 2545 – nearly 1,000 points higher than 3rd place T1’s 1600.
