In Week 5 of the esports world cup, we saw a marathon series in Apex Legends, an Honor of Kings masterclass from KPL, and a fresh Rainbow Six champion crowned. Let’s take a look back at some of the biggest standout moments from EWC Week 5!
Kicking off our list this week, we have the final moments of what will go down in history as one of the most hotly contested Apex Legends tournaments ever. The Match Point format proved explosive, with a seven-hour 13 Game series to decide the winner, where in the final game 13 teams were on Championship Point poised to lift the inaugural EWC: Apex Legends trophy.
In the end, Alliance took home EMEA’s first-ever LAN world championship in Apex Legends. In the process, Alliance also silenced the critics who said they were nothing more than a Groups Team. Check out Alliance’s final, victorious moment, complete with a listen-in!
Although Yuzus was named the MVP of the EWC: Rainbow Six Championship, the play of the day belonged to BDS IGL LikEfac for his absolutely stunning 4K on Map 2 Consulate.
The Frenchmen showed off incredible game sense and aim in this 26-second clip. In a 3v4 scenario, he equalizes by lighting up an enemy through the floorboards above him, then finds a second through that same gap. He finishes the clip with two insane back-to-back flick shots to secure the 4K. It’s ridiculous.
In Game 12, over half the lobby was on Championship Point, the series had been going for nearly seven hours, and it felt like this grueling gauntlet of a series was going to finally come to an end. But Twisted Minds said no.
In front of the home crowd, Twisted Minds had one of the coolest winning moments of the day, winning a game after squad reviving not once, but twice. In the final circle, they stood firm against Luminosity Gaming to send the series to a stunning 13th map. This moment was everything to the Twisted Minds players, and this win gave us one of the most animated on-stage reactions of the week.
KPL Dream Team lived up to their name in the Honor of Kings Invitational Midseason 2024 x Esports World Cup this weekend, stomping every team they faced without dropping a single map. It is difficult to illustrate just how dominant this team was at the EWC, but the final battle of their Grand Finals against LGD Gaming MY can help give you an idea.
In this clip, they smother the defense and then dive in with all their ultimates in a unified, unstoppable show of force. Throughout the match, they outclassed LGD strategically and mechanically, resulting in a blowout grand final filled with one-sided team fights just like this one.
Coming out of the Esports World Cup, KPL Dream Team may have been one of the most dominant HoK squads we've ever seen despite being a put-together squad.
