Week 3 may have been the most captivating yet with incredible moments in CS2, DOTA 2 and more.
Week 3 of the Esport World Cup is in the books! We witnessed epic Grand Finals in two of the EWC’s biggest tournaments, DOTA 2’s Riyadh Masters x EWC and EWC x Counter-Strike 2.
With championship matches going down and millions of dollars on the line, there were bound to be some unforgettable moments. And there definitely were, so here to share just four of those top moments from EWC Week 3 that got fans hype!
Kicking off this week’s best moments, we have a pivotal team fight win for Gaiman Gladiators, featuring a devastating Enigma Blackhole from Seleri that snared not one but two Team Liquid members. Captured by the Blackhole, both TL players were sitting ducks in what ultimately became an important early team fight win for GG.
Plays like this carried Gaimin Gladiators to a dominant Grand Finals sweep. They walked home with the $1,500,000 prize and EWC trophy!
While the EWC CS2 Grand Finals did not go the way of G2 Esports, they did win Map 1 on the back of a truly incredible overtime clutch from one of CS2’s nastiest players, Monesy.
With a scoreline of 14-13, Monesy had the bomb, an AWP, and a dream on Ancient’s B-Bombsite.
He secured his first kill with the AWP. Then, after swapping to an AK, he styled on NAVI in the 1v2 fight, taking out one, planting the bomb, and finally securing the round-winning frag. What an iconic moment!
Team Falcons brought down the house with their huge 2-0 win over Tundra in the Riyadh Masters x Esports World Cup during Saturday’s Lower-Bracket Semifinal. The win locked Team Falcons into a 3rd place rank.
More importantly, they took the game in style, heisting the throne right from under Tundra in a last-stand team fight. This play is the definition of knowing your win condition and playing the objective.
During Inferno — the last map of Grand Finals — G2 was in a must-win situation. They were on a full-buy with nothing in the bank, down 5 rounds already. They needed a win, but B1t wasn’t going to let that happen.
They double-stacked apartments with an AWP and an AR, thinking this would secure that entry. They were wrong.
B1t pushed Apartment Corridor, looking to frag out. And frag out he did. First, he peaked and beat Monesy’s AWP, then he cleaned up malbsMd for good measure.
With their economy in the tank and morale waning, this round was a nail in the coffin for G2’s championship hopes. NAVI went on to win the map and the tournament, becoming the first EWC CS2 Champion and earning a cool $400,000.
