Week 2 of the Esports World Cup was filled with thrilling plays, incredible clutches, and show-stopping upsets. Let’s take a look back at the four most hype moments of the week, featuring Free Fire, Mobile Legends, and DOTA 2 action!
Selangor Red Giants was a heavy underdog in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Mid Season Cup 2024 x Esports World Cup.
But SRG defied the odds against Falcons Apbren. They pulled off an epic 4-3 upset to earn themselves the title, becoming the first ever Malaysian team to ever claim a MLBB championship.
A huge factor in the historic victory came in the form of deadly assassination plays from Jungler Sekysss, who played out of his mind throughout the Grand Finals. His biggest highlights came in Game 4 playing Fanny. Check these out!
He repeatedly clowned on Falcons with his movement, slingshotting in to backstab the enemy and deal massive damage, then noping out before anyone could punish him.
Team Falcons flew under the radar, only to show up to the Esports World Cup: Free Fire Grand Finals and dominate with book-end “Booyah” victories.
But there was a moment in the final game where they almost lost it all.
In the last game of the Grand Finals, Team Falcons needed a Booyah to win the series. The squad found themselves in dire straits when two members fell, with only Onemore in position to save them.
Without hesitation, Onemore stepped up, securing five back-to-back eliminations and leding his team to a full recovery. Ultimately it was this play that would set them up to secure the Booyah and the tournament!
While Miners did not win the day, they did win back-to-back games in the EWC Free Fire Grand Finals to finish 3rd.
They won Game 5 in a hilarious high-stakes heal-off as the final circle closed completely, leaving everyone’s health bar exposed to the zone. It was at this moment that Miners earned themselves the Booyah using the most powerful weapon in the game: A med kit.
One of the most interesting stories to watch over the first two weeks of the Esports World Cup has been the rise of Entity at Riyadh Masters x Esports World Cup. Despite being a play-in team, Entity cooked Group B with a dominant 11-3 record.
