A defensive masterclass by Team BDS overwhelms Team Falcons in the Grand Final of the EWC

Team BDS took down the hometown heroes on Team Falcons in a defensive masterclass to win the EWC ft. Rocket League championship on Sunday. A huge congratulations is in order for the Swiss organization. Let's take a closer look at their path to victory.

How Team BDS won EWC Ft. Rocket League

This rendition of Team BDS has been together since late last year. The roster features M0nkey M00n and ExoTiik from France, and dralii from Morocco. They have been a long-time contender in the RLCS scene, including winning the RLCS 2021-2022 World Championship and coming in second at the RLCS World Championship against Vitality last year.

Team BDS got off to a slow start at the Esports World Cup, dropping to fellow EU contender G2 Stride in the Group Stage to set up an elimination match against PWR. Luckily they easily bested PWR in a clean 3-0 sweep to find themselves in the single-elimination playoff bracket that would decide the inaugural EWC Ft. Rocket League Champion.

In the Playoffs, they glided past Space Station Gaming and Gen.G Mobil1 Racing to reach Grand Finals, dodging a meeting with their rivals Team Vitality due to Gen.G eliminating Vitality in a dominant 4-0 sweep in the first round of the playoffs.

On the other side of the bracket, it was all Team Falcons, all day. The hometown favorites didn’t drop a single map in the Group Stage or the Quarterfinals. They lost their first game against G2 Stride in the semifinals, but still won that series with a convincing 4-1 scoreline.

This set up an all EMEA affair for the Grand Finals. Team BDS came out swinging, winning the first game via a spectacular aerial goal from M0nkey M00n.

But Team Falcons struck back, defeating Team BDS in back-to-back games. First they stomped Team BDS 6-1 on Forbidden Temple, then they squeaked out an Overtime win on DFH Stadium to take the lead in the series.

Unfortunately for Falcons, that would be the last time they held the lead. Over the next three games, BDS picked the Falcons apart in a series of high stakes defensive battles, taking Utopia, Aquadome, and Neo Tokyo by one goal a piece. While Falcon’s kept it close all the way up until the bitter end, Team BDS would not be denied their crown!

EWC Rocket League winnings, MVP, and Player Bounty

Team BDS is heading back to Europe with the $200,000 top prize in their pocket. Team Falcons earned $80,000 for second, while Gen.G Mobil1 Racing and G2 Stride banked a tidy sum of $40,000 each for finishing in the top four.

The MVP of the tournament, along with the $50,000 award, went to Joreuz from Chiefs Esports Club. Despite the fact that his team was eliminated in the Quarterfinals, he still managed to put up 10 goals, 51 shots, and 31 saves across three matches.

Team Falcon’s may not have won the tournament, but RW9 did win the $50,000 player bounty for securing the most demolitions at EWC Ft. RL.
